Jets superstar receiver Garrett Wilson signs massive contract extension

A long-expected contract extension has finally been announced. Multiple NFL insiders broke the news on Monday afternoon that the New York Jets and superstar wide receiver Garrett Wilson had agreed to terms on a new 4-year deal worth $130 million, $90 million of which is guaranteed. As ESPN's Adam Schefter noted, Wilson is the first wide receiver in NFL history to earn more than $31 million per year on average before playing in his fourth season. As rich as this deal is, Wilson deserves every red cent of it. He has put up over 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first three NFL seasons, and he did that all amidst the near-continuous dysfunction of the New York Jets franchise. As an example, Wilson has already caught passes from seven different quarterbacks in just three years, and that will increase to eight now that Justin Fields has joined the team (and considering Fields' injury history, it may become nine). Advertisement With Wilson now under a long-term contract with the Jets, the attention of the front office must shift to Wilson's fellow 2022 NFL draft pick, cornerback Ahmad 'Sauce' Gardner. The Jets have professed eagerness before to get both players signed to contract extensions at pretty much the same time, so Jets fans should expect a deal for Gardner to be heading down the pipe soon. Like Wilson, Gardner's contract should be well north of $30 million per year on average.
